Design projects are incorporated within and across subjects to imbue design thinking, critical inquiry, problem solving, communication and collaboration skillsets. Freshmore modules help our students make an informed decision on their choice of Major after Term 3.

AR Catapult

A simple hands-on lesson on projectile motion. We will go through the physics involved and how the problem can be casted in multivariate analysis, with initial conditions as the input parameters. The concepts will be enhanced by a hands-on activity using augmented reality (AR) where various scenarios are presented via gamification.

Repurposing Food Waste: The Bioplastic Frontier

Conventional plastics derived from fossil fuels are not readily biodegradable and have serious environmental impact. Alternatively, bioplastics derived from natural materials are gaining interest over the last few decades and are being commercialised into various products such as grocery bags and food packaging. Food waste has the potential to be repurposed as material for producing environment-friendly bioplastics.

 

Discover the secrets of producing an eco-friendly bioplastic film from starch and discarded orange peels. Explore how waste orange peels can be transformed into a green material, and its potential applications as an alternative to conventional plastics.

Micro-Design Innovation

Fasten your seatbelts, as we take you on an adventure to tackle real-world, society-based design challenges! This Micro-Design Innovation workshop will show you how to solve problems using knowledge across contexts, subjects and disciplines – while having loads of fun along the way!

 

We will guide you through the design innovation process encompassing the ‘Discover, Define, Develop, and Deliver’ phases. Participants will be introduced to key design concepts such as empathy, reframing, ideation, prototyping, and iteration, empowering them to take their first step into the world of design innovation.

UV Resin Art Workshop

The SUTD Fabrication Laboratory (FabLab) is the first-of-its-kind in Singapore housing all state-of-the-art machinery under one roof, enabling SUTD students to transform their creative ideas into tangible products, meaningful outcomes and innovations. Together with Fifth Row, Makers Club, we bring you into the world of UV resin art at our vibrant workshop, designed for creative minds and curious souls.
